1. Gather and look over the material you have for different images that you would like to incorporate into your photomontage. Look big background images and small detail images.
When selecting images, pick photographs. This is the crucial difference between photomontage and collage.
2. Carefully cut out your images.
Experiment with your images, placing them thoughtfully.
3. Once you have decided what your photomontage will look like, apply glue or past to the back of your images.
4. Carefully paste your images.
5. Paste smaller images to add interest. Let dry.
7. Once you’re done, observe your finished work.
Bonus Step: If you have access to a digital camera, try taking a photo of your work and removing the color from it creating a black and white image. Alternatively, you could also make a black and white photocopy of your piece if you have access to a photocopier.
Photomontage: the process and final work made by different images glued, copied, or pasted into a final image.
