Age Range: 2+

Time to Complete: 50 - 70 minutes

Supplies Needed

  • Construction Paper (any color)

  • Construction Paper, white

  • Scissors

  • Finger Paint (or any other child-safe paint)

  • Glue

  • Embellishments: pompoms, glitter, etc.

Step-By-Step


1. Have the student seated, and then paint the bottom of the student’s foot. Be careful to not apply too much paint, as the foot print won’t show. And to not apply too little of the paint, as the foot may get stuck and rip the paper. Let dry. ~15 minutes

2. Cut out the foot prints with some space around the foot. This will look like a sandal.

3. Using a paper of a different color, cut a long thin strip. This will become your sandal straps.

4. Cut that thin strip in half. Then cut the thin strip in half again. You should have a total of four short thin strips.

5. Bend/Curve the strip with your finger to make a “rainbow” shape. Glue the strips from between the toes to the other side of the foot. These are your sandal straps.

6. Take your sandal embellishment (pom-poms, rhinestones, gems) and glue it in the middle your sandal straps.

7. Cut the construction paper into your desired shape and enjoy!


Extras


Color: The visual sensation dependent of the reflection or absorption of light from a given surface.

Texture: The surface quality of materials, either actual (tactile) or implied (visual). It is one of the elements of art.

Paint: A liquid with pigment that can be spread on a surface by using your fingers, brushes, etc.

Collage: An artistic composition made of various materials (e.g. paper, cloth, or wood) glued on a surface.
