April/May: Advanced “Making Art” Workshops with Art Sherwyn

Making Art: A 6-Week Visual Art Workshop for Experienced Artists

This class is specially designed for the experienced artist with a desire to advance their skills towards becoming a more proficient and significant artist. Throughout this workshop artists will explore new directions and avenues for motivation. Students will take part in advanced art-making challenges and exercises in drawing, painting, designing, and creating; working in a myriad of mediums and processes. This class is designed to open up new avenues of thought and exploration, sharing techniques and strategies for the experienced artist to break out of their own box and seek new horizons.  Emphasis will also be placed on exploring the creative mind, and how to create works of art that are original and captivating. Those who take this class will have opportunities for one-on-one and/or group critiques and brainstorming sessions.

 This class will meet every Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 for six consecutive weeks beginning April 2nd and ending May 7th. Most materials will be supplied. Class size is limited; sign up today!

Take part in this wonderful opportunity to explore the world of art, learning art techniques, and processes for unleashing your creativity, while taking a journey though the rich history of visual art.  This workshop will promise to be a fun, hands-on, no-fail, low-stress, and life-enriching experience.  Students will engage in art sequences connected to drawing, painting, collage, perspective, color, composition, design, and art history and appreciation.  Students will also be provided with insights, and challenges connected to unleashing the uncommon mind and thinking creatively.

June: Ceramics Workshop with Yvonne Cavanagh for Educators

Ceramics Workshop for Art Educators and Beginners

Dates: June 17-21, 2013

Earn 15 hours of District Credit for attending this workshop! Come get your hands dirty for a week!  Attendees will learn to incorporate ceramics into curriculum during this weeklong workshop of basic hand building techniques. Educators will learn ways to bring ceramics into their classrooms with little to no funding. This week will be filled with information, fun projects, and plenty of camaraderie among art educators. (Non-educators are welcome to attend this workshop, too!)

July: Photography Workshop with Andrew Hawley

Digital Photography Workshop

Students will learn the basics of DSLR photography such as shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and basic photo editing and basic elements and principals of art. We will look at the works of photographers who greatly influence the art world today and students will learn tips on how to make a “working” piece of art. This is a hands-on course and will require students to bring a DSLR camera (point-&-shoot cameras will not work for these classes). Lessons will consist of visual presentations and applied photo projects.

July: Ceramics Workshop with Yvonne Cavanagh for All

Instructor: Yvonne Cavanagh
Dates: July 15-19, 2013
Time: 2:00-5:30pm
$250 for members \ $260 for non-members

This crash course in ceramic hand building techniques will teach students all that’s necessary to start working successfully with clay. Attendees will use traditional techniques of pinch, slab, coil, and subtraction, creating multiple projects. Students will also get to try out the potter’s wheel! This workshop offers a fun experience for all who participate! Educators: Earn 15 hours of District Credit for attending this workshop!

August: Painting Workshop with Sharon Schwenk

During this three-day workshop we will find inspiration in the colors the Impressionists used as well as their beautiful brush strokes. This workshop will accompany the BMOA’s exhibit: California Impressionism: Selections from the Irvine Museum, June 27-September 1, 2013. This will be a wonderful opportunity for artists who love color and California to observe and study forty-one paintings by the group known as the California Impressionists.
